"I am really very happy with the attendance of the parade and the ceremony," said Latimer, a Rye resident.
Approximately 800 people were in attendance said Latimer.
"My heart swells when people clap for the veterans, when they start the parade," said Latimer. " I think its wonderful."
Sandy Weissberg, a Rye resident and retired Midland school teacher, credits Latimer with re-establishing this parade and ceremony.
"Robin did a great job with this and it's great to have the Memorial Day Parade and ceremony back in Rye," said Weissberg.
Thomas Saunders gave the welcome at the Village Green. Latimer sang the national anthem, and then Mayor Sack gave greeting and Matthew McCarthy of the Resurrection Middle School recited the Gettysburgh Address.
Rep. Eliot Engel gave the Principal Address. Three students were given awards for the John M. Kingery Memorial Essay Contest. First prize of $500 went to James Cronin, and $250 runner-ups were Jake Mequet and MacKenzie Smith.
Eight Eagle Scouts were given recognition: Sean Bryne, Peter MacKenzie, Zack Unkenholz, Reid Bradt, Brandon Olivier, Tim Hardis, Grant Sundstrom and Jack Smith.
Rye resident Stacy Unkenholz enjoyed the parade and ceremony.
"I think it was fantastic, and I appreciate how much time was taken to put this together. Its great to have the community come together," said Unkenholz.
"This was well-attended and It was nice to show respect for the vets," said Karin Smith.
Tom Unkenholz liked that they took the time to read each of the names of the Rye residents.
City Council member Terry McCartney gave the Roll of Honor. Latimer sang God Bless America and Matthew Bellanger of Rye High School played Taps.
