New Rochelle Library Hosts School Vacation Programs

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The New Rochelle Public Library will host programs during school vacation this week Monday through Thursday.

Children in pre-K through fifth grade are invited to participate in a variety of free programs being held at the main library and the Huguenot Children's Library.

Spring has Sprung Gardening Adventure

Monday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the main library. Children in grades two to five will help get the library’s Adventure Garden ready for planting and will learn how to plant seeds to grow at home. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 1:15 p.m. 

Family Craft Bonanza

Tuesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the meeting room of the main library. Children in pre-K and older are invited to a craft field day. The library will provide a supplies, tools and guidance. Make a frame, decorate a tile, concoct a sand art container, make some jewelry, bind miniature booklets, create a mural or design a mask.

Performance for Preschoolers with Evan Gottlieb

Tuesday at 1 p.m., Gottlieb will entertain and enrich children ages 2-6 in the Huguenot Children’s Library, lower level. The popular children’s entertainer brings music and merriment to his programs. Participation is on a first-come, first-served, starting  at 12:45 p.m.

Magic & Comedy Show with Jim McClenahan

Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Ossie Davis Theater. McClenahan will delight all ages with his humor and tricks. Both shows are first-come, first-served.

Movie Marathon

Celebrate Hans Christian Andersen with favorite films based on his tales Thursday from 11 a.m.-12:05 p.m. in the Ossie Davis Theater. A series of short films from Picture Books, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen fairytales, will include “The Emperor's New Clothes” by Nadine Bernard Westcott; “The Ugly Duckling,” illustrated by Jerry Pinkney; “The Swineherd,” illustrated by Bjorn Winblad; and “Nightingale,” illustrated by Michael Sporn.

“The Little Mermaid” will be shown from 1-2:45 p.m. The 1989 Disney classic, based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, involves Ariel, the teenage daughter of Triton, King of the Sea.

Disney’s “Frozen” will be shown from 3-4:45 p.m. Based on Andersen's fairy tale “The Snow Queen,” the film takes place in the kingdom of Arendelle, which is cast into eternal winter by the powerful Snow Queen Elsa.
