New Rochelle Library Hosting February Events

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. –  The New Rochelle Library is hosting various programs through Feb. 27.

There will be a live performance of "Peter and the Wolf and Meet the Woodwinds!" with the Lehman Woodwinds Quintet will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

There will be a teen’s snack food cooking demo with Chef Giovanni will be at 4 p.m. Thursday.

There will be an African dance and drum performance at 2 p.m. Saturday. Come to the library for the culminating performance of the seven-week African dance and drum workshops led by Anthony Wooden of Bokandeye Dance, and starring members of his troupe.The free annual event always is filled-to-capacity; be sure to arrive early.

African-American Heritage Month Performance:

"How Sweet the Sound" will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Ossie Davis Theater. The evolution of American music is traced through more than three centuries, from the time of slavery to the Jazz Age. The free show encompasses dance and highlights the music of such notable American Composers as Scott Joplin, J. Rosamond Johnson and Billie Holiday. The performance is suitable for audiences of all ages.

“Picture Book Paintings” exhibit by James E. Ransome will be open until Feb. 27. Ransome is best known for chronicling African-American history. This exhibit features more than 50 paintings created during his career as a children's book illustrator. A selection of Ransome's works in poster form are available for sale.
