New Rochelle League Of Women Voters Plans Coffee

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The New Rochelle League of Women Voters' first Coffee and Conversation program for the 2014-15 series is set for 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19 at the New Rochelle Public Library. Luiz Aragon, who was appointed Commissioner of Development for the City of New Rochelle in January 2013, will discuss the city’s “Growth & Preservation.”

Aragon worked as the planning commissioner in New York’s Sullivan County and, before that, he was deputy commissioner of Preservation and Development in New York City. He has experience in community and economic development, revitalization, housing, planning and environmental management.

Aragon is also a member of the Mid-Hudson Region Sustainable Consortium where he has assisted in developing a regional plan that includes a renewable energy initiative designed to create jobs and reduce costs.

The development commissioner’s duties include overseeing the city’s part in major projects such as development of homes, stores and parkland on Echo Bay and in downtown New Rochelle, along with plans for new dormitories at Iona College.

A question-and-answer session will follow Aragon’s presentation. Complimentary coffee and light breakfast will be available.
