New Rochelle Greets August With Music, Art Event

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle Council on the Arts will kick off the month of August on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with an "art intervention" at Library Green.

The NRCA and the New Rochelle Arts Collective are co-sponsoring the event by Arte Usable, an artist duo from Santiago de Chile. Visual artist Paula Garrido and art director/producer Nacho Pérez Kenchington, working with New Rochelle artist David Krinick and MESH Studio, will present LIVE!, an art intervention that includes screen printing, 3D elements, lighting and music that will transform Library Green into an interactive happening.

Participants in thei art intervention will take home a custom screen printed piece of art and even have the chance to have their own tees or jackets printed. They can also enjoy the display of Paula Garrido´s 3D art at Recologie (49 Lawton St.).

Arte Usable has conducted their art interventions in Chile, Peruvian Amazona, New Zealand, France and England – and now New Rochelle. The Walter’s Hot Dog Truck will be on site, and the Luscious Little Dessert Company is holding the second annual Sweet Potato Pie Eating Contest at noon. There will also be a “Dance En Plein Air “ event that features the Mayte Vicens Dance Theater in a Latin Dance Blast.

Weekly pop-up performances, organized by NRCA Advisory Board member Donna Wood Sanders, take place every Saturday at 1 p.m. and feature a different local dance company each week.
