The Lush Life gala, set for Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Glen Island Harbour Club, also marks the centennial of composer Billy Strayhorn and will re-create some of the glamour of the big band era, the arts council said.

Pizzarelli’s career spans 70 years, from the Vaughn Monroe Orchestra to the Doc Severinsen Band of Johnny Carson’s "Tonight Show,: the council said. He has performed with other world-renowned musicians such as Rosemary Clooney, Charlie Byrd and Zoot Sims.

Pizzarelli has played his seven-string guitar at the White House with Benny Goodman and Frank Sinatra and, most recently, appeared with Sir Paul McCartney on his Grammy-winning 2012 release “Kisses on the Bottom.”

Besides dinner and dancing, the gala includes a live auction, the NRCA said.

The council will honor residents who, it said, have had a positive effect on the arts in the community.

They are: Tony Award-winning actress Frances Sternhagen; Michael Armstrong, senior vice president of BET/Paramount International; Charles Fazzinno, 3-D Pop artist; Christopher John Farley, arts and culture editor at The Wall Street Journal; and Kathryn Donovan Wiegand, musician and composer.

“We’re really excited at the buzz in the community about Lush Life," said NRCA President Theresa Kump Leghorn.

“And we are delighted to be honoring a group of people who have really made a difference in the arts,” added NRCA co-chairwoman Angela Derecas Taylor.
