NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- New Rochelle High School's Concert Chorale will perform at Alvin & Friends on Sunday, March 23.
The group will perform as the entertainment for the restaurant’s weekly Sunday Gospel Brunch, supporting the students’ efforts to raise money for a planned trip to South Africa, representatives said. The group will travel to South Africa to perform in Johannesburg, Soweto, Pretoria and Cape Town and take a Safari Tour of Kruger National Park.
“Having the NRHS Concert Chorale perform at Alvin & Friends is a win-win for us,” says restaurateur Alvin Clayton. “We get to showcase outstanding talent while also supporting the group’s trip and New Rochelle High School.”
The New Rochelle High School Chorale is under the direction of Derrick James and David Jutt.
“A tour of South Africa is, for many, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said James. James added that the trip would “give our students a chance to experience Africa culture firsthand bringing divergent young people together through the common interest of music. All of our international trips have been transformative, especially for those students who have never been outside of the country and, in many cases, outside of New York."
James said the fundraising should help as the trip would cost about $4,300 per student.
The group is asking for donations and any checks can be sent to Young Artists of New Rochelle, c/o New Rochelle High School, 265 Clove Road, New Rochelle, New York 10801, ATTN: Derrick L. James, Dir. of Vocal Studies.
