New Rochelle Celebration Combines Holiday Traditions

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The Chamber of Commerce and the city of New Rochelle are holding a festive tradition of the lighting of Christmas tree, Hanukkah menorah and Kwanzaa candles on Thursday, Dec. 4, at Memorial Plaza in downtown New Rochelle.

The ceremonies will be conducted by religious leaders of the New Rochelle community starting promptly at 5:30 p.m. The spiritual leaders will represent the solemnity and spirit of their respective holidays in a short service.

The ceremony will signify the unity of the diverse and harmonious community of New Rochelle as they come together to celebrate the joy of the season.

There will be carols sung by the well-known Songcatchers and anyone who chooses to sing along. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Santa Claus will appear compliments of the New Rochelle Fire Department.  

The party will continue afterward at Alvin and Friends at 14 Memorial Highway.
