New Rochelle BID Farmers Market Offers Family Activities

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Free family entertainment continues at the BID Farmers Market on New Rochelle’s Library Green each Saturday. Families can enjoy local farm-fresh products, gourmet items, alfresco noshing, and lively performances and activities to delight young children and their parents or caregivers.

The following programs will take place in September and October at the Business Improvement District Farmers Market:

  • Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m.: Balloon Bonanza with Nora Maher will provide a fanciful balloon creation for each child to take home.
  • Saturday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m.: Children’s performer Kurt Gallagher invites kids to clap, slap, shake, spin, stomp and sing along while he performs on his guitar, ukulele, jaw harp, slide whistle, lumberjack puppets and other musically silly stuff.
  • Saturday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. Children’s performer Zev Haber plays banjo, guitar and percussion instruments, with crazy-fun songs that tickle all ages. His shows always include plenty of audience participation, laughter and music.
  • Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m.: Children’s performer Louie Miranda delivers a high-energy performance of music with a terrific Latin beat, interactive songs, games and surprises.
  • Saturday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m.: Children’s performer Juggles the Clown entertains all ages with magic tricks and silly antics.
  • Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10-11:30 a.m.: Family Fall Festival: Families with children ages 8-12 are invited to paint seasonal scenes for Halloween and Thanksgiving on the windows of downtown businesses, beginning at 10 a.m. A mask-making workshop geared for younger children will take place in Library Green, under the green tents at the BID Farmers Market. In the event of inclement weather, a rain makeup date will be available by calling 914-654-2116. The event is free.   • Saturday, Oct. 25, 9:45 a.m.: Costume parade; pumpkin-painting: Children of all ages are invited to don their costumes and line up for the annual Merchants Urchins Parade, which begins at 9:45 a.m. at New Street, New Roc City (in front of Regal Cinema). The parade ends at Library Green Park, where distribution of treats and pumpkin painting will take place under the green tents at the BID Farmers Market. (In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be canceled, and pumpkin painting will take place in the library’s meeting room.)
