Leukemia Cup Regatta Sails Into Long Island Sound On Saturday

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- The Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will hold its 2014 Leukemia Cup Regatta, to raise funds to support blood cancer research and patient services.

This year’s race takes place on Saturday, Sept. 6, followed by a post-race Pig Roast at Larchmont Yacht Club in Larchmont. The Leukemia Cup Regatta combines the joy of sailing with the important goal of raising money to fight leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. Each sailor in the Regatta series is eligible to win fantastic prizes, including the opportunity to race at the Fantasy Sail in Savannah, Ga., from Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, with world-renowned sailor and ESPN commentator Gary Jobson.  Jobson has been the national chairman of the Leukemia Cup Regatta since 1993. In 2003, after years of committed service on behalf of LLS, Jobson was diagnosed with lymphoma, and, in his words, “became a  beneficiary of the research advances I had helped support.” Today, he is cancer-free and continues to support LLS through participation in Leukemia Cup Regatta events across the country. The event includes starts for IRC, PHRF, Etchells, IOD, Shields, S-Boat, Viper 640, J-70, J-105, Laser, Laser  Radial, RSK6, Ideal 18, Vanguard 15, Club 420 and Optimist. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the Pandemonium at Larchmont Yacht Club. First warning is 9:55 a.m. and no warning signals after 4 p.m. 

The post-race Pig Roast will featurw food, drinks, live music, a raffle, silent and live auctions and awards for top fundraisers. Pig Roast tickets are $75 for adults and $35 for kids age 15 and under.
