As of 11 a.m. on Aug. 1st, lane restriction had just been lifted on Route 22 West/322 between the Midway and PA 34-Newport/New Bloomfield exits.

The deadly single-vehicle crash happened around 7 a.m., according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

There was entrapment in the crash, but the number of persons in the vehicle and their identities have not been released.

The crash happened between two work zones—but not in any work zone itself, according to Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler.

The second crash happened around 7:30 a.m. and cleared around 10:30 a.m., according to Township police.

That crash happened at the intersection of Hemp and Texaco roads in Silver Spring Township, Schraffler explained.

A 2022 Mitsubishi SUV and a 2017 Chevrolet SUV collided, according to the police.

Despite life-saving measures, a 66-year-old man who was a passenger in one of the vehicles died at the scene.

New Kingstown Fire, Hampden Ambulance, Fire Police, township and state police, and the Cumberland County Coroner were called to the scene.

The man has not been identified.

Silver Spring Township police continue to investigate this deadly crash and are asking any witnesses to contact Officer Cody Phillips at 717-697-0607 ext. 2021 or email cphillips@sstwp.org.
