22-Year-Old Driver Seriously Injured Lancaster County Barn Crash

A 22-year-old woman remained hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday after she crashed into a barn Sunday evening in Lancaster County, authorities said.

A GoFundMe page for Shelby Tamara Hummer, of Manheim, was launched with a goal of raising $20,000 Sunday morning.

Hummer was behind the wheel of a Toyota Yaris when she struck a barn at 453 Fruitville Pike around 6:15 p.m., Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department said.

The 911 caller did not stop to render aid and did not know if anyone was in the vehicle.

Hummer was found slumped over the in the driver's seat when police officers arrived, and firefighters extricated her by mechanical means, authorities said.

The barn that was struck sustained severe damage: A mailbox on the property was also damaged along with damage to the grass in front of the barn. 

Hummer was transported to Lancaster General Hospital via Northwest EMS with unknown injuries. 

The vehicle was towed from the scene and Hummer remains at Lancaster General Hospital being treated for multiple trauma related injuries. 

NLCRPD Crash Reconstructionist team members will be conducting further investigation at the scene of the crash. 

The contributing factors and cause of the crash will be provided when final determinations and the investigation is completed.
