The affable actress who had roles on the radio station-focused television programs "NewsRadio" and "Frasier" replaced Meredyth Glover, who left to pursue other interests, according to a release.
The Tappan resident who previously lived in California but grew up on the East Coast, moved to Rockland County in 2008.
Since then she's been seen on Broadway and in numerous New York plays, and on television in "The West Wing," "The New Adventures of Old Christine," "Blue Bloods," "Madam Secretary," "The Americans" and "The Good Wife."
Her most recent film project, "5 Flights Up," starred Diane Keaton and Morgan Freeman. She will also be seen in the soon-to-be-released film, "5 Doctors."
Baker has worked across all media as an actor and it has been a lifelong dream to be on the radio, she said in an interview.
"I've never done radio other than Los Angeles Radio Plays, said Baker, who grew up in Riverdale, N.Y., although her family also lived in California, one of four children. She is a graduate of Smith College and has a master's in performing arts from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers.
Although her acting career spans 35 years and includes radio work she is not a journalist, she said.
For the live "unscripted" broadcast she and Possell deliver local traffic, weather and news, and national news reports, in short bytes at the top of the hour.
"I have five minutes to do two or three stories. I am still learning. When I started they told me, 'You don't have to be first but you have to be right,' she said.
Baker lives in Tappan with her husband, actor Kevin Kilner. They live in an "older" 19th century home. "I love Tappan. There's a lot of history here, a lot of artists live here."
Friends and colleagues listening in sometimes give her advice. "They tell me to tone it down," she laughed, telling how projecting her voice comes natural because of her vocal training for stage work.
"They're all listening on their laptops. We're not just local, we have a live stream. There's a camera in the booth so you can see us."
Operated by Alexander Broadcasting Company, the station features a mix of locally-produced talk shows, local traffic, weather and news, national news and Adult Contemporary music.
WRCR reaches listeners across Rockland, Westchester, Orange and Bergen Counties and covers all five boroughs of New York City.
