EZ Sports Plans Online Relaunch Following Closure Of Chappaqua Store

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- EZ Sports, a longtime mainstay of downtown Chappaqua, recently closed its storefront. However, residents need not worry, as owner Pete Zimmerman is planning to continue the business online.

“We're doing our jackets and t-shirts and, you know, uniforms for all the local teams,” Zimmerman recently told Daily Voice.

A launch of the website is planned in the new year. Wholesaling is also an objective.

Zimmerman operated EZ Sports out of the same storefront for 25 years; for 10 years prior to that he ran the business out of his home.

Asked why he chose to close the storefront, Zimmerman cited several factors, including the maintenance of the space and rent.

“Twenty-five years is a good run for anybody.”

Zimmerman lived in Chappaqua for roughly 50 years before moving to Somers. Over the years he has become a fixture in the community, which included coaching youth teams in football, lacrosse and baseball. He has also served as an early coach to years of future Horace Greeley High School athletes and offered an array of Greeley-themed athletic apparel.

Customers will miss having EZ Sports in downtown, however.

“People are sad to see me go,” Zimmerman said.
