Hudson Park Concerts Underway In New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle Council on the Arts kicked off the Emil Paolucci Summer Sounds Concert Series on Wednesday, July 9. The series will include free music at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday through August at Hudson Park.

NRCA is presenting the concert series in conjunction with the city Department of Parks and Recreation. The music is sponsored by Webster Bank, while Metro Med is helping underwrite the Aug. 6 concert by New Rochelle Opera.

The performers that will be featured throughout the rest of the series include:

• July 16 – Lou Volpe & Friends: Smooth and mellow jazz.

• July 23 – Virgil Scott Orchestra (Emil Paolucci Memorial Concert): Big band sounds from the 1930s and ’40s.

• July 30 – The Ronald Reagans' Big ’80s Show: Popular reminiscences of the 1980s.

• Aug. 6 – New Rochelle Opera (co-sponsored by Metro Med): Opera, operetta and Broadway favorites.

• Aug. 13 – Billy & the Showmen: Hard-driving rhythms of the 1960s and ’70s.

• Aug 20 – Grupo Arcano: Fiery salsa.

• Aug. 27 – Gunsmoke: Classic country and western swing.

NRCA was originally formed in 1975 by the City Council to encourage performing and fine arts study, presentation and public interest and participation. For more information about the organization or becoming a member, go to the NRCA website at www.newrochellearts.org.
