Hear Chamber Music, Learn New Recipes, And More At New Rochelle Library

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle Public Library is hosting several upcoming events.

There will be a chamber concert by Con Brio Ensemble on Saturday at 3 p.m. Members of the Con Brio Ensemble will perform a program of classical works. Violinist Alexander Meshibovsky, oboist Alan Hollander and pianist Diana Mittler-Battipaglia will perform Bach's Double Concerto. The program will also feature works for violin and piano including Beethoven's Sonata in C minor, Seven Popular Spanish Songs by De Falla and Wieniask's Grand Polonaise. Suggested donation: $2.

Postcards as Collectible Treasures of the Past is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. Roderick Kennedy will discuss the evolution of picture postcards and the pleasures of collecting these cameos of the past in this illustrated presentation. Kennedy is the president of the Metropolitan Postcard Club and author of several books on postcards, including "Lost New York in Old Postcards" and "Hollywood in Vintage Postcards." He was also the originator of the interpretive signs at Glen Island Park and the New Rochelle Walk of Fame.

The Cook by the Book Book Club will explore the library's collection of cookbooks and online food-related resources. It will meet once a month on a Saturday afternoon in the library's meeting room. Local cookbook authors will be invited to some of the sessions to demonstrate recipes from their books. An introductory session will be held Saturday, Jan.16, from 2-2:30 p.m. The first meeting of the club will take place the following week, on Saturday, Jan. 23, from 2-3 p.m., with an appropriate starting theme of hors d'oeuvres and appetizers.
