City Manager Charles "Chuck" Strome will be speaking at the League of Women Voters' "Coffee and Conversation" event on Feb. 27.
The free program, which is open to all, will include a brief presentation by Strome, followed by a question and answer session. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Strome, III was appointed city manager on Nov. 12, 2002. He had served as acting city manager, beginning in March 2002, and as deputy city manager, beginning in 1995. Two years prior, he had served as assistant city manager/city coordinator, and from 1989 through 1992, as director of Emergency Services.
"Fresh Voices, From Beethoven to Broadway," a concert at the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Public Library, will be held on Sunday, March 1, beginning at 3 p.m.
Graduating music students at Manhattanville College will perform a free and thoroughly entertaining concert, “Fresh Voices, From Beethoven to Broadway.” All are welcome to attend. Providing a great opportunity to experience the next generation of rising stars, the talented vocalists will enchant the audience with an eclectic program and a variety of crowd-pleasing music, from classical to popular. The students are directed and accompanied by Mark Cherry and Diane Guernsey.
The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library will hold their monthly Big Book Sale on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the library’s lobby.
A large array of quality used books -- from popular novels and mysteries in hardcover and paperback, non- fiction in hard-cover and paperback, to children’s books, plus music cassettes, videos, and DVD’s -- will be available for purchase at very affordable prices. The executive board of the Friends of the Library coordinates the book sales, with the assistance of other Friends' volunteers. Money realized from book sales are used to underwrite the library’s extensive public programs. The Friends of the Library mini book sales continue every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., also in the library lobby.
