NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Friends of Westchester County Parks will hold its annual Best Friends Awards Reception Wednesday evening, April 10 at 5:30 p.m., at the Glen Island Harbor Club in New Rochelle. In honor of its 35th Anniversary, Friends of Parks will present their first ever “Lifetime Achievement Award” to Herman Geist.

Friends of Parks will honor four distinguished individuals and one prominent organization for their support of Westchester County Parks and dedication to keeping Westchester’s 50 county parks green and growing.

In addition to founding member Herman Geist, the other honorees include, Sandy Miller, Friends of Parks executive board member and Former Con Edison Director of Public Affairs in Westchester; Michael Romita, Executive Vice President, Castle Oil and Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation board member; Westchester Mountain Bike Association; and Ralph Martinelli, Publisher of Westchester Magazine.

“This is a momentous year for Friends of Parks," Liz Bracken-Thompson, Chairperson of the Board, said in a statement. "The reception will give us the opportunity to stop and celebrate the countless programs we funded to keep our county parks open and beautiful."

Since its inception 35 years ago, Friends of Parks has held close to the notion that merely building a park is insufficient to insure its use; it is critical to provide ongoing support for maintenance, civic improvement and access to nature.

“We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to salute Herman Geist and have him join us as the founder of Westchester County Friends of Parks," Bracken-Thompson said. "This event also gives us the opportunity to recognize the other deserving individuals and organizations for their contributions."
