NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The last market days of the season will offer free family entertainment throughout October at the Business Improvement District (BID) Grand Market on Library Green, at Huguenot and Lawton streets.
While parents are browsing the wide range of produce and fruits, specialty foods, fish, breads, baked goods, cheese, and unique artisanal products, children will have the chance to enjoy activities and shows by popular performers.
The following free programs will take place in October:
- A Mini Italian Festival will transform Library Green into a piazza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 5. Italian music and dance will be featured and, families can make projects inspired by vetrate artistiche (stained glass windows) and enjoy foods from local Italian restaurants. This event is a “BID Family Days Go Global for New Rochelle’s 325th Anniversary” event.
- From 11-11:45 a.m., Oct. 12, children will have a blast as they “Rock-out with Armelle Gloaguen” at the BID Market. Gloaguen's band will rock Library Green when they perform a global-array of familiar and original tunes that engage all ages. Gloaguen is an award-winning artist and an accomplished singer, songwriter and guitarist who has produced four children's albums and teaches languages through music. In the event of rain, the performance will move indoors to the Ossie Davis Theater.
- The annual Family Fun Fall Festival begins from 10-11:30 a.m. Oct. 19 Families with children ages 8-12 are invited to paint seasonal scenes for Halloween and Thanksgiving on the windows of downtown businesses, beginning at 10 a.m. A mask-making workshop geared for younger children will take place in Library Green. In the event of inclement weather, a rain make up date will be available by calling 914-654-2116. Families must pre-register in order to paint a window: email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- The Family Fun Festival continues on Oct. 26, as the annual Merchants Urchins Costume Parade kicks off at 9:45 a.m. at New Street, New Roc City (in front of Regal Cinema), and winds its way to Library Green. Treats and pumpkin-painting on the Green follows. (In the event of inclement weather, the parade is cancelled and pumpkin painting will take place in the library’s meeting room.)
