A pair of events are to take place at the plaza at 1 Bronx River Parkway on Saturday, May 7.

Earth Day Westchester 2016 is scheduled for 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. that afternoon. The event will feature "green" exhibits, live entertainment, a farmers market, a "green raffle," children's activities and the presentation of sustainability/recycling awards by Westchester County, according to event organizers.

Also on May 7, Riverkeeper is to hold its fifth annual Riverkeeper Sweep, a day of service for the Hudson River.

According to organizers for that event, Riverkeeper will organize up and down the Hudson, not just the Kensico Dam Plaza.

The group, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, aims to make the 2016 event the best yet.

Last year's Riverkeeper Sweep attracted 2,000 volunteers and dozens of community partners who cleaned hundreds of miles of shoreline between Brooklyn and Troy, N.Y. Last year's teams removed an estimated 40 tons of debris and planted more than 1,150 trees.

Riverkeeper members have said they plan to partner with more communities, schools, businesses and organizations moving into this year's event.
