NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle Public Library will host an African dance and drum performance on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The performance is set to kick off at 2 p.m. at the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Library. The performance comes from the Bokandeye African Dance Troupe. A “BID Family Day” event, the performance is free and open to all ages.

Anthony Wooden, now in his 20th year as director of Bokandeye African Dance and Troupe, will lead the troupe of dancers and drummers in a program depicting the "rich cultural meanings of the movements and dress of African village life, and the role of the extended family," representatives said.

"The performance is a stirring demonstration of brilliant costumes, reverberating rhythms and exuberant dance," representatives said.

Seating for the show will be on a first-come, first-served basis, to the capacity of the 138-seat Ossie Davis Theater. Audience members are advised to arrive early. The BID Family Saturday programs are made possible by the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District, in a partnership with the New Rochelle Public Library, School and PTA Council and Parks and Recreation.
