The Re-Store, a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center, will sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials and other appliances to the masses for pennies on the dollar.
According to Jim Killoran, chief executive officer of the organization, the store will be more than just a place to shop. Habitat for Humanity is planning to organize several programs that promote local artists and New Rochelle culture. The 15,000-square-foot location will also serve as a transferrable disaster center.
In an effort to promote sustainability, environmental efficiency and “green awareness,” Killoran will be hosting “Solar Saturdays” at the Re-Store. The program will feature experts on solar energy that will educate the community about the benefits of that energy source at home and in the workplace.
“We love Main Street,” Killoran said. “This is the most historic Main Street in America, and at the center, we now have approximately 15,000-square-feet of love.”
